There's plenty of room to dance around and if you keep dancing, we keep the party going until 3AM!

On Friday, June 6th, Strangelove pays TRIBUTE TO THE SISTERS OF MERCY. Tomas Diablo and guest DJs LowLife (New Wave City, 1984) and Fact50 (Debauchery, Less Than Zero) spin the best of the Sisters and their side projects, as well as like-minded Dark Electro, Industrial, New Wave, and Goth.

Strangelove is every first Friday at the CAT CLUB (Folsom and 8th). There's plenty of room to dance around and we keep the party going until 3AM! The DJs play music in the back room, and it's piped through to the front room at a lower volume, giving you the chance to chat at the bar without losing your voice.

Hi

I am a local author in San Francisco spreading word about my new book about my life working on a cruise ship. Permanent Passenger: My Life on a Cruise Ship chronicles my wacky job search to get my dream job as Assistant Cruise Director and takes you behind the scenes on a cruise ship.

Witnessing rescues at sea, stowaways, fatalities, and passionate romances are just some of the day to day events revealed in this intriguing and humorous account.

Go to www.permanentpassenger.com to see more about the book. Available at Stacey's, Books Inc. at Opera Plaza, Book Passage

Book Talk June 2 at 7pm at Books Inc at Opera Plaza

Truly a very funny insightful book that will make you laugh – cry – and throw up just a bit.

Cheers

The party will be 420 friendly. Usual rules apply, no unprotected intercourse unless it is with your committed partner. We want friendly, down to earth, go with the flow people who are respectful of other people’s limits and comfort level. No pushy or rude people, or you will be asked to leave.
Colin Stetson (Arcade Fire, Sinead O'Connor, Tom Waits, etc) THIS TUES in SF!

Tuesday, May 6, 2008, 8:00pm, $10 to $15 sliding scale
COLIN STETSON
DARREN JOHNSTON
SCOTT AMENDOLA
At the Climate Theater
285 9th Street @ Folsom, San Francisco

COLIN STETSON
He is THE jazz player to watch out for. Colin has a unique sax voice. His work has been featured on the David Letterman Show, in sessions and on tour with Tom Waits, Sinead O'Connor, Burning Spear and Medeski, Martin, and Wood, Anthony Braxton and "TV On The Radio". He is currently touring with the band, ARCADE FIRE, playing clarinet, bass clarinet, french horn, cornet and bass saxophone. Web: http://www.colinstetson.com Some YouTubes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5SH7JFv2yo With Transmission: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ1d6-iSq2w

Quote: "Michigan native Colin Stetson is like the Roger Federer of avant-garde instrumental music. While the Swiss tennis player has changed the way we think of tennis, Stetson is redefining the possibilities of woodwind and brass instruments. Equally at home on the flute, French horn, clarinet, and saxophone, Stetson's musical innovations bring to mind the work of Fred Frith, Henry Kaiser and John Zorn. "

Joining Colin will be Darran Johnston and Scott Amendola.

About Scott Amendola (from the NY Times): "The drummer Scott Amendola could fairly be described as a jazz musician with an investment in the imperatives of groove. He seems to come by his eclecticism naturally: when rock, bebop and Afrobeat take turns surfacing in his music, they do so in a way that feels loose and unforced. " Web: http://www.scottamendola.com

About Darren Johnston: "As a performer, Johnston has performed, and/or recorded with such innovative musicians and composers as guitarist Fred Frith, clarinetist Don Byron, bassist Marcus Shelby, bassist Herbie Lewis, the ROVA Saxophone Quartet, clarinetist Ben Goldberg, and others. He was recently listed last June by Downbeat Magazine as one of “25 Trumpeters of the Future.” Web: http://www.darrenjohnstonmusic.com

Come party with the Black Rock Roller Disco

SUPPORT THE SKATE AGAINST VIOLENCE

On Saturday, April 5, 2008, skaters from the Black Rock Roller Disco and the California Outdoor Rollersports Association will be presenting a fundraising roller disco party to raise funds to support the Skate Against Violence Roadskate from San Francisco to Santa Monica. Come get your skate groove on at Imola Maxwell School and support SAV. We have transformed the gym into San Francisco's greatest roller disco rink. The party starts at 8PM and goes until 1AM. This is a costume thang, so please come showing your creativity. Maybe we can break a record for the most skaters doing the "Thriller" dance!!!! There's plenty of space, so if you don't feel like skating you can dance you ass off.

The school is located at 655 De Haro Street. That intersects at 18th St. on Potero Hill in San Francisco. It's $15.00 per person. $5.00 for skate rentals. The school is donating their building for free in support of SAV.

The Skate Against Violence Campaign is a three pronged effort to strongly raise awareness of the positive aspects inline skating and roller skating can bring to the lives of youth and adults alike and give people a fun, healthy alternative they can enjoy. We also want to lift the image of skating from "toy vehicle" to viable alternative transportation. This can have an enormous impact in the minds of people who will benefit from the social interaction and the physical conditioning skating will bring into their lives. The details on the Campaign can be found at http://www.cora.org/SFtoLA2008.htm

The SAV Roadskate will kick off the 2008 SAV Campaign. We will leave San Francisco on Monday, April 14 at about 9AM. We will arrive at the Santa Monica Pier at about 2PM on Thursday, April 17. The cost of presenting the Skate Against Violence Roadskate is $8,350.00. We have so far raised about $4.500. We are seeking sponsorship and donations to cover the costs of presenting this effort. Before you make any kind of donation, please take a look at why we skate against violence at http://www.cora.org/WhySkateAgainstViolence.htm

Afterwards, if you feel you want to support this effort, you can make a donation online at: http://www.active.com/donate/SkateAgainstViolence You will be helping out plenty just by coming out to our fundraising party. You will be donating to a great cause while having a funky good time on skates.
: : : : : : : B A S S D R O P : : : : : : :

REN THE VINYL ARCHAEOLOGIST (True Skool)
90's Dance Set

San Francisco stalwart, (by way of NYC) Ren The Vinyl Archaeologist, has been holding it down for SF hip-hop culture since 2000. A great proponent of the four elements of hip hop, Ren in conjunction with his magazine/newsletter Trueskool, promotes events related to b-boying, emceeing, dj'ing, and the written word graffiti. Ren's persistence and dedication has earned him spots alongside greats such as: Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Q-Bert, KRS-One, and Cut Chemist.

In terms of abilites, they don't call him The Vinyl Archaeologist for nothing! Ren is notorious for digging deep in the crates for uncanny surprises. Expect to hear some 90's dance tunes in the vein of: C+C, Technotronic, as well as some 80's heat such as: New Order, Man Parrish, Newcleus, Information Society, Rob Base + EZ Rock all mixed with his inimitable hip-hop flair.
Evan and Matt gathered a group of piratical celebrities and entertainers to donate their time to entertain, give out toys, and play games with the children and their families in the hospital.
Bender - Friday, February 8th at The Transfer

Ah, that wonderful time of the year...the holidays are behind us, the sun stays out until almost 5:30pm, Cupid is running around buck naked trying to hump on us like Aunt Nettie's poodle and well, some of us think it's an appropriate time to...well...ok, do one of those things that straight folk do that is once again not legally recognized for those of us that love others with the same equipment.

February's Bender is shaping up to be another drunken "LOVE" fest.

You hostess, Charisma Glitterati (always a bridesmaid, never the damn bride!) throws a party that could make a frat boy blush. Imaging what she's got in store for a wedding reception!

Candy and Six spin the hottest electro (including the newest jams straight from DiscoClique.com), Lord Kook spins a special wedding DJ set and Twig is there to capture his own effing mayhem.

Don't you dare miss it!

Bender at The Transfer-Church and Market Streets-9pm-2am-Friday, Feb. 8th-No Cover!

Sunday, Feb 10: Benefit for LEYLA with DJs Fernando, Tomas Diablo, Fact50, and Skip

Strangelove presents:
A Benefit and Going-Away Party for LEYLA

with DJs
Tomas Diablo (Strangelove, Rock This Town)
Fernando (Assimilate, Shrine of Lilith)
Fact50 (Debauchery, Less Than Zero)
and Skip (New Wave City, Something)

SUNDAY, February 10th
7PM to 12 Midnight (early, so you can still get yer sleep)
at the Cat Club - Folsom at 8th, San Francisco
Suggested Donation: $10

Come down and show some support for a long-time member of the SF Goth community.
You may know Leyla from Twilight Zone, House of Usher, Roderick's Chamber, Assimilate, A Winter Gone By, Shrine of Lilith, Catacombs, Death Guild, Meat, or Strangelove.

For 12 years, Leyla has lived in the same apartment in Western Addition. 5 years ago, she accepted Jamahl as her roommate, and 2 years ago Jamahl allowed his mother and brother to move in to his bedroom. They lived there RENT FREE, and quickly destroyed the apartment and any semblance of peace. The mother, a particularly nasty woman, would turn her speakers towards Leyla's wall and crank music, lock herself in the bathroom for hours if she knew Leyla had to go to work, and even PEED ON HER TOOTHBRUSH. As master tenant, Leyla tried to have them evicted, but they claimed squatter's rights and wouldn't budge.

In November, Leyla was arrested for "Threat Crime" for saying she wanted to kill her rooommate's mother. She spent 2 weeks in jail before friends could bail her out. Leyla gave up her rent-controlled apartment, and friends moved all of her belongings into storage. She has been broke and homeless ever since, and recently accepted a plea-bargain of "Attempted Threat" so she can finally move on. She'll soon leave for the Mid-West to spend time with her ailing father (who is fighting cancer for the 3rd time).

We hope to raise $$$ for her to pay off bail debt and cover some travel expenses. This will also be the last chance for many of us to wish her well.

Aberrant behavior-auditions saturday the 19th 2263 mission (between 18th & 19th) 3:30-6:30 (Also looking for crew)

I'm making a film, that will be somewhat explicit in parts. Also, there will be imagery that needs nudity.
I am afraid that I will not be able to cut the content of the movie script, even if I find actors interested .You can e-mail me with rates, photos, questions, etc. If your an actor or actress who has worked in nudity and/or sexual situations, is comfortable with it, and would like to take on a feature narrative film as a major role please e-mail me or show up to the auditions. The two main roles are the ones that require it but there are others. If you would like to be featured in sequences that do not involve the main characters, but are part of dreamlike imagery (that features nudity/partial nudity)you can either show up to the audition, or e-mail me with link to your work. Best place to e-mail:
theperiodmovie@yahoo.com

Here is the plot:
Aberrant Behavior, is basically about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. Who are in a very self destructive relationship, there perfect for each-other except they literally kill each-other by being together. A lot of psycho-sexual/self mutilation-masochism in this one. There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis.

Keep in mind the budget of this movie will probably stay around 25-35, 000 dollars (already secured), so just warning I can't pay the highest rates

Thanks-
Jason

Here is the original posting:

I have a new movie called "Aberrant Behavior" auditioning Sat. 1/19 3:30-6:3- at the Dark Room SF 2263 Mission off of 19th and Mission@ 3:30 - 6:30. (My first movie "the period" came out through Sub Rosa Cinema can be seen/bought at Netflix www.myspace.com/theperiodmovie as well as various other outlets)
Aberrant Behavior, is basically about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis. If you can't make it to the auditions, you can send me a head shot with resume, or whatever you want. We can then decide when and where to meet.

I will be hiring for many roles, all ages (over 18) races, sizes, etc. But here are the main characters:
Main Characters:
Victor Muertos: (Mid to late twenties) Half Mexican/Half white (Half latino/half white will probably work). Black hair, down to chin and five o clock shadow. (Flexible though). Tall and thin but not too thin.
Dark, brooding, depressed, prone to long winded sarcastic, cynical rants. Living off the state for mental depression, and addiction, but eventually breaks himself from the state. He hates the state, and normal life in general. He hates almost everything. He is sort of sloppy hipster, slightly emo, slight slight slight goth meets street kid. Light or no body mod, piercings, etc. He eventually lives on the street because of choice. He falls in love with Aiko.

Aiko Zumbi (18-early twenties or look like it) Half Japanese/Half German (or Japanese, or half Japanese/Half white). Shorter than Victor, thin but still slightly curvy.
Street kid with a bit of dark hippie. Has been sexually abused as a child. Prone to violence. Prone to long winded rants, or sometimes just total silence. Dark, cynical, with a very bleak view of life. Body mods, tattoo's, piercings, fine. Dreaded or colored hair fine as well. Actually preffered.
She falls in love with Victor.

Emma May (20's to 30's) Actress must be thin, because character is anorexic. Very fake, superficial, manic laughing. Very self deluded. She doesn't really see her anorexia as a problem, she think she looks great though she's obviously dieing and goes to extremes to keep herself thin. She is always dressed up elegantly and thinks of herself as a proper lady even when doing something grotesque . She is a head executive at a advertising/pr firm that she gets a Victor a brief job at, through meeting him in a class over there mutual addictions. (Brief Nudity /Partial a few times)

Caseworker Joe (30's-40's) Written has hispanic, but open. Larger guy, tall, built like a shed, a bit fat but not flabby fat. Very coarse, to the point, direct "Take no shit" kind of guy. Very normal, buys into the whole big house in the suburbs, good job, etc. He is Victor's Caseworker, and is tired of Victor's Shit, and believes he is not trying to quit. (None)

Glitters- a gay gangster rapper, take everything that's a cliche and horrible about it and flip it so that it's gay (some, will also need male models)

Pedida Muertos-Victors Mother. A nearly catatonic morally apprehensive drug addict who's always sleeping with random guys and ignoring her child (Some nudity/sexual situations can be negotiated to less)

And then random visuals, nudes for some flashback scenes (of some sort of psuedo porn the main characer shot) a girl that Victor sleeps with before he falls in love with Zumbi (requires brief nudity/sexuality) and some body part imagery that will not feature the face of the actor/actress, among other thing

I need before I even start:
Prostethetics/Makeup- There are many parts of my movie that need gore, ghoulish makeup or creating body casts for dreamlike effect (like a scene where they fall onto the ground and break like porcelain blood-paint spraying out of them creating a heart) but most importantly I need someone who can help make someone look anorexic, eye sockets reccessed , hips sticking out, ribs sticking out, shoulder blades, etc. I can't start without this because it's one of the main characters.

Boom-I have someone lined up for operating boom/mixing sound, but I'm not sure he'll always be available. I need someone who has at least some experience in this to help. I have equipment but having (better?) equipment would be great.

Props- It would be great to have someone who can assist in creating edible (or non toxic) chemicals, substances, materials for the main characters to ingest. It would also free me up to think about other things.

Lighting/ Art Department/ Set Design/Decoration/Locations- I need someone who can do a lot without a lot who can work with unusual materials. Who isn't too expensive or I won't be able to afford you. Also may be able to transform other locations into desired location.Things needed for instance underground bomb shelter turned into run down sorta apartment. Abandoned buildings. Offices. Fashion Show. A sewer, where the characters live in and eat off of trash.
Set Decorators/Builders:
Though the majority of the movie will be in real locations. There will be a few sets built, and sets that will be decorated to fit the movie. I am looking for people who have experience building sets (theater experience would be great) on a low budget. Resourcefullness in materials is needed (Meaning you can do a lot with not a lot). Building flats, painting, decorating.
